Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club
Golf has been played at the present location for Rochester & Cobham Golf Club since 1920 with the course undergoing redevelopment in 1997 with the unveiling of the new Channel Tunnel rail link. Having hosted the Kent Amateur Championship, the Brabazon Trophy final qualifier and two international matches, as well as being selected to join the elite group of 16 clubs that host regional qualifying for The Open Championship. Selection for these events underlines the course’s credential as being “one of the finest inland courses in the county”.
Part of the clubs ongoing development for members was to programme an upgrading of the condition of the pathways around the clubhouse and to the practice facilities and the first tee as upgrading the practice facilities with a longer term plan to improve further pathways around the course.
All weather synthetic grass practice tees were installed to the clubs driving range together with a covered teaching bay using SSP’s ProGrass Tee artificial grass. The ProGrass Tee system is the result of years of research to provide a system that will act in a similar manner to that of natural turf whilst retaining the wear and all weather qualities offered by a synthetic surface. The ProGrass Tee surface is dense enough to allow a golf tee to be inserted into it just like natural turf but stable enough that a golfer can position their body around the ball and carry out pre shot routines without disturbing the ball or tee. It truly is a realistic alternative to natural turf.
