Rubber Surfaces FAQs
Wet Pour Rubber FAQ’s
How long will my surface last for?
An SSP Wet Pour Rubber surface can be expected to keep on performing for many years but it is dependent on the use and maintenance that is carried out
How do I maintain the safety/wet pour surface?
Maintenance should consist of regular brushing or the use of a blower on the surface to remove air borne or other debris. After a given period of time of between 3-5 years the surface should be deep cleaned using our pressurised water process. Care should be taken to avoid narrow pointed objects entering the system such as stiletto heels or the feet of furniture as these may puncture the surface.
Any break down in the surface should be repaired immediately so that its integrity is not compromised. For further information see our maintenance guidelines.
How much surfacing will I need around play equipment?
We recommend that the children’s safety surface adheres to the British and European standards when installed under play equipment. Should you require further guidance please do not hesitate to contact us.
How soon can I use the surface after it’s been installed?
A wet pour rubber surface needs time to cure before use. This would usually be after a 24 hour period after the installation is completed.
How deep should the surface be?
Any existing base may dictate the minimum thickness that can be laid. Generally a thickness of 20mm and above can be installed onto a sound tarmac or concrete area whereas a minimum of 40mm should be installed onto type 1 mot stone. If play equipment exists within the area that may dictate the required depth of wet pour rubber so that the advised critical fall height is met.
Can it be installed indoors?
Traditionally wet pour rubber is an outdoor surface but under certain circumstances it can be installed indoors.
Where can wet pour be used?
Wet pour rubber surfacing can be installed into most areas depending on the use required. Traditionally it is used for children’s play grounds and play areas as an impact absorbent and safety surface but it can be used for associated purposes such as pathways for golf courses and horses, across bridges and for footpaths, or for swimming pool surrounds

Can I have any design I like?
In theory yes but with complexity comes cost. Traditional games and educational aids are relatively cost effective.
What colours are available?
Black is standard with red, blue, green and yellow the next most common colours however the colours available range from purples, to eggshell and beyond. Colours can also be mixed to create flecked systems.
What makes bound rubber safer surfacing systems ideal for use in play surfaces?
Essentially their impact qualities and the ability to increase the impact absorbency by increasing the thicknesses of the rubber. The fact that you can incorporate colourful designs, games and educational aids into the rubber surface makes it an ideal system for children’s play.
How do I determine the depth of surfacing I may require?
Any existing base may dictate the minimum thickness that can be laid. Generally a thickness of 20mm and above can be installed onto a sound tarmac or concrete area whereas a minimum of 40mm should be installed onto type 1 mot stone. If play equipment exists within the area that may dictate the required depth of wet pour rubber so that the advised critical fall height is met.
My play area is an awkward shape, can it be installed to fit?
Wet pour rubber is installed insitu by mixing rubber crumb with resin. It is then laid onto the intended area and screeded to the required level. It can therefore be installed into any shape.
Should my rubber surfacing become damaged can it be repaired - cheaply and easily?
Yes – we supply repair kits for small areas or can send an installation team to repair larger areas

Rubber Mulch FAQ’s
How is shock-absorption determined?
Rubber mulch is installed to tested thicknesses
Will Rubber Mulch decompose?
Rubber mulch is a bonded rubberised system that will not decompose
What if my child falls?
Rubber mulch is designed to be an impact absorbent surface suitable for children’s play
How durable is coloured Rubber Mulch?
Rubber mulch is bonded rubber surface designed to be durable for children’s play and pathways
Do I have to remulch every year?
No – the system is bonded with resin and requires no topping up whatsoever
What if children or pets eat rubber mulch?
Whilst eating the product should not be encouraged the rubber is bound together with resin and therefore should not be able to be separated into any elements that could be consumed
Does rubber mulch require a lot of maintenance?
The maintenance requirements would be similar to that of wet pour rubber surfaces
How should the play area be prepared?
An advantage of rubber mulch is that it requires little or no base preparation or edging detail
Do you offer samples?
